PLANTING ROOTS FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS

This spring, Sutton real estate professionals across Canada are gifting Canadian red maple trees—as a symbol of growth, connection, and commitment to the future.

Whether you plant it outside your new home or in a community space, each tree is a powerful gesture. Together, we’re leaving a legacy rooted in community and care for future generations.

Why Trees?

Trees don’t grow overnight. Neither do trust, relationships, or strong communities.

But with steady, purposeful care, they flourish. Trees symbolize growth, resilience, and long-term thinking—values at the heart of who we are at Sutton.

Our objective is to plant red maple trees, the inspiration for our national flag, as a commitment to make our communities a better place to live, work, and play.

As it takes root and flourishes, we hope it brings lasting beauty to your home and serves as a reminder of this special moment in your journey.

Our objective is to plant 5,000 trees for future generations to enjoy.

"The true meaning of life is to plant trees under whose shade you do not expect to sit."

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

What to do when you receive your sapling:

Step 1: Open package as soon as you receive your sapling.

Step 2: Place indoors in a cool shaded area - office or area that is out of the way from potential damage. Keep trees in an upright position away from direct contact with heat (i.e. sunny window, vents, etc.).

Step 3: Consider misting the root balls with a spray bottle rather than watering as this will keep roots hydrated without causing it to fall apart or overwatering.

Step 4: Place the root ball in the provided pots and add planting soil.

Tips for planting:

Step 1: Please plant within 2-3 days of receiving your sapling. If you need more time, plant your tree in a pot with triple mix soil and keep it in a shady protected spot outdoors.

Step 2: Your red maple will grow tall—up to 40-50 ft! Pick a spot with no overhead lines or competing large trees. Choose a sunny or partially shaded (at least 4-6 hours of sunlight) area with room for its 30' canopy to spread.

Step 3: Dig a hole twice as wide as the roots, but no deeper. Place the sapling gently in the hole, and fill in with soil, pressing down lightly.

Step 4: Water roots generously after planting. Try to avoid spraying the leaves, especially on sunny days. This can leave burn spots. Water regularly in your tree's first year—especially during dry spells.

Enjoy your tree for generations to come!
